BHIB Councils Insurance are delighted to sponsor the ‘Council of the Year’ award for the third year running at the annual Derbyshire Association of Local Councils (DALC) ‘Excellence Awards’.
We are pleased to announce that Ripley Town Council have been presented with the Council of the Year award for 2020.
This is not the first time Ripley Town Council have received this award, having previously won it in 2018 followed by the Highly Commended accolade in 2019.
Michelle South, Director of BHIB Councils Insurance, visited Ripley Town Council to present the award (albeit socially-distanced!) to Tony Holmes, Mayor of Ripley, and Clerk, Linda McCormick.
Michelle comments:
“The entries demonstrate the fantastic community spirit that has arisen from finding ourselves in the middle of a pandemic. The entries are heart-warming and wonderful examples of the efforts and coming together of communities to survive and thrive.
The winner for me is Ripley Town Council, who demonstrated a huge community spirit prior to the pandemic with a full programme of events and funding for the benefit of their township. Their focus on inclusion ensuring opportunities are available to all regardless of social standing is what really impressed me. They provide a diverse range of opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved in activities and engage and communicate widely. It’s great to be able to recognise their efforts even at this difficult time.”
