The 11th November 2018 will mark 100 years of remembrance since the day the guns fell silent and World War 1 came to an end.
Across the UK, Channel Island and Overseas Territories, events will be held to commemorate the millions killed, injured and affected by the dangerous conditions on the home front during the conflict.
Beacons are a symbol of hope and will be lit nationwide as communities come together at 7pm on the 11th to pay tribute.
Beacons, fireworks and bonfires come with their own risks and therefore BHIB Councils Insurance would like to reaffirm a number of guidelines to ensure that all of those attending are kept safe.
Beacon Safety Guidelines
The below guidelines were compiled in association with our insurer partners in order to organise and run events safely.
- Organise the event in accordance with the latest guidance available from the Health & Safety Executive
- Follow all recommendations or instructions of the Health and Safety Executive and fireworks manufacturers
- Ensure all fireworks are supplied by a company complying with the firework regulations concerning the manufacture and supply of fireworks. All fireworks must be British Standard 887114:1988 and not modified
- Ensure the display and bonfire is at least 100 metres away from all property, materials and any flammable or other dangerous materials*.
